Kitchen Sink Cookies

This weekend after all the sickness, we needed some cookies.  It's not as if we did not have pounds of candy laying around from Valentines and needed more sugar, but some times you just want cookies. Or rather cookie dough...
I am telling you, we would be dead if this was true...

So kitchen sink cookies all started one day at school...One of my teammates has a sister that works for Panera bread and she full out stopped a meeting and was like, "Girls! Last night I had the best cookie..." she proceeded to tell us all about how she devoured a cookie that was the size of her head and had everything you could imagine in it. When we asked her what it was she couldn't remember the official name of it. Which lead us to grab our phones and or computers and do a furious search for said cookies. We found out they are indeed called, "Everything but the kitchen sink cookies". Therefore leading us each to agree to bake a batch and bring it to school on Monday. I love my team SO much!

My cookies were not the most amazing looking, but I highly suggest whippin' up a batch and giving them a try!

It's a pretty basic cookie dough, but the add ins are what makes it amazing!
You need:
1 cup of butter room temperature (I used salted)
1 cup of white sugar
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1 egg + 1 egg white
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups of flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp of baking soda
1 tsp salt

Pre-heat the oven to 350.

First whip together the butter and gradually add in the sugars until it's nice and fluffy. Then add in the egg  and vanilla...
Like so...
Next add in the dry ingredients a little at a time, don't over mix. I think I mixed mine a titch too much and they were a little flat, but still super yummy.

After the dough is done add in the mix ins. We went all out, y'all! The title does not lie....
I crushed up pretzels, potato chips and fritos...a little salty, you know.
I lost my meat tenderizer mallet, so a spatula had to do...
Next, mix in 1 cup of your salty snacks! Then mix all of your sweet ingredients. We went with cocoa nut flakes, butter scotch chips, milk chocolate chips, craisins, and caramel bits. Yummm!

Then, add in 1 and 1/2 cups of your sweet ingredients. Again just mix them in nice and easy with a spoon or spatula, NOT the mixer!

After all of the mix ins are added, make loosely formed balls of dough and plop them on a parchment lined baking sheet.
Pop them into the oven for about 15 minutes! The first batch came out a little dark and more crispy than I liked. If your oven runs hot, like mine, reduce the time a little so they come out golden brown. My 2nd batch was MUCH better!

Let them cool and ENJOY!
They were oh-so-good and hit the spot!

What I Wore Wednesday

Another Wednesday at home...Just over here binge watching This is Us...Will the Wood's ever be healthy again?!? We were literally walking out the door this morning and some lost her cookies.

So off to school to make sub plans. Planning 7 hours of learning for 27 little critters is always a little taxing, but to get it done in 30 minutes...that's winning right there!

But on the bright side, the weather had been glorious and warm, living in the CO I just have a feeling that it's not time to put away the sweaters yet!

Happy Valentine's Day

This year the day of love is brought to you by the letter "V" as in virus. As in strep . Actually I think strep throat is an infection. This is why I am a teacher not a doctor. Either way this virus/infection has claimed the two littlest Wood's which is the reason I am home in the middle of the day on a Wednesday while they lay on the couch watching Angry birds and taking turns hacking all over each other waiting for our doctor's appointment.

Back to yesterday, when everyone was healthy...We had such a lovely Valentines day!
Dr. Love and the heart dress from Sunday made an appearance after daddy showered them with candy and treats...
Flowers from my fella. Even though I complain that flowers are a waste of money because they just die in a week. I secretly love that he gets them for me...
This was Callie's little Valentine's day robot box. At the bottom it says, "Feed me yummy Valentine's" How cute is she?!?
Then it was off to school to partake in all things festive and heart related! I LOVE being an elementary school teacher, y'all! We had such a fun day (until literally the last 5 minutes of the day. More about that in a minute) We read sweet stories, did some crafts, played with candy...

At the end of the day we traded cards and ate cupcakes and cookies and probably more candy than we should have...Then as we were cleaning up, not one but two of my little 2nd grade nuggets started coughing so hard they barfed. One in the trash can and one in the sink. It was terrible. Thankfully one of the 4th grade teachers, whose kiddo is in my class, and another student's grandmother were there to help comfort and clean up so I could get the other 25 cleaned up and out the door. It was gross, and totally ruined my 107 day puke free streak, but other than that, my first elementary Valentines party was a hit!
Just a couple pounds of chocolate from my sweet students!

When we got home both kiddos started running a fever and the epidemic struck our house. This actually worked to our advantage, as both of our little Valentines were in bed by 7. My mister and I were able to grill up some steaks and get caught up on the DVR and had such a lovely evening! It was a relaxing end to such a strange little Valentine's day...
Cheers for spreading love, NOT germs!

Callie's New Room

It's finally done! This was another labor of love y'all! Waaaayyyyy back in November, our precious girl decided hot pink princess room was out and modern beach house was much more fitting for her. I died a little bit inside. Who is this girl??

                                                                 Good Bye princess palace....

See ya later ponies and butterflies...
Hello Modern Beach house!
So it all started with the bunk bed. For as long as I could remember Callie has begged for a bunk bed. I am talkin' since she was like 4, now she finally has one! This monstrosity is from Ikea. It took 4 super smart capable parents like 6 hours to assemble. In all reality though, it is a bed, desk and armoire, so when you think about it being 3 pieces of furniture the time frame is actually legit.

Her bedding is from Ikea as well! There is teensy bit of minty green there and that was our inspiration for the wall color. Which is literally Olympic "Sea Foam Green" It is so pretty and we both agreed on it!
Same old dresser that took me and aunt Jenn a freaking day to make!
"Hello Gorgeous!" was a vinyl that sweet papa John gave her for Christmas. This is his standard greeting whenever they see each other. It's nice to be papa's girl!

Her lamp and mirror are both from Hobby Lobby and I love her obsession for all things bling. Hey, if it's not pink at least it's shiny!

Callie picked out these sweet pictures of our family all by herself. This frame was also from Hobby Lobby
In addition to her bling, fur was also a must!
We searched high and low for a suitable chair and she finally chose this one with my mom from Pottery Barn! I love how it came out and it is the perfect little place for her to read!
(Pillow are from Hobby Lobby and Ikea)
Her curtain (which you can see better in the first picture) is just a sheer ruffled panel from Target. Callie has grand plans to add one below her bed to make that a little private area in her room.
(The tassel bunting is also from Hobby Lobby)
Callie chose all of these little pictures for her mini gallery wall. She did good and all of these fit her personality to a T!
(They are ALL from Hobby Lobby)
Callie's desk area is so great! She is always begging to hang up junk on her wall, this way she can and it's a little hidden. Also she has tons of drawer space for all of her school stuff and arts and craft things!

(Bulletin board and picture lattice are from Target and match everything perfectly! Her lamp is from Ikea. We are still looking for the perfect chair for her desk. She requested a furry chair, but I think it might be overkill, lol!)

On the desk side...

On the other side...These little cubby holes are perfect for blankets sheets and pillow! The baskets are from Target and they are a life saver!
This corner looks a little naked now! Callie is quite my Lego Maniac and she HATES putting them away. Plus Kellen is a pretty destructive little brother, so this little cage/shelf thing from Target is a great way to display her creations and keep them safe!

She had to have to have these little gold urchin things, also from Target. I don't know why, but whenever she saw them at a store, she requested them. I finally broke down and just got them for her!

This awesome sign was a gift from her MeMe!

More baskets for her books and treasures!
We also spray painted her piggy bank gold, cause' you know, bling reasons...
True facts right here... This sparkle magic was 8 bucks at TJ Maxx!
And last but certainly not least, because ceiling fans and bunk beds are pretty much the most hazardous combination known to parenting, we found this jeweled light fixture at Lowes and it is hit!

So in true Wood project fashion, one tiny little room took way too long, but it's done and looks amazing! I hope that this little re-do will last her  right through high school because I am exhausted!

Thrifty Finds This Month!

This week was a super short 3 day week, hurray! Which means that I spent Thursday and Friday, catching up on life stuff. I probably could have gotten more done if I'd planned it out better, but oh well!

I cleaned the carpets, that was an adventure in it's self! I finished Callie and Kellen's rooms, finally! More about that later. I spent like 3 hours going through 3 years worth of file cabinet nonsense, that was wonderful! And NOW I still have 2 glorious weekend days to spend with my familia!

Yesterday I dragged sweet Callie all over town and we even managed to squeeze in a thrift store trip! She is becoming quite my little thrifty shopper. Gotta love that!

Here were our treasures!
Forever 21 Top: $5 Callie picked this one out for me at the last minute! It' super cute!

J. Crew light weight sweater: $6! This is so super fun and will be a great transition into spring sweater.

Apt 9 sweater... I needed a few more sweaters to get me through this oh so cold winter! $6 and it long and cozy, goes great with leggings!

Express CASHMERE sweater! $5. I know it's a super pain in the neck to have to get it dry cleaned, but it's so pretty and soft and such a fun color, I am thinking Valentines day!

Old Navy sweater $5. Another cozy, long sweater to wear with leggings. I kind of forgot what real pants are like!

Hot Pink scarf $3--It photographed kind of purplish but its actually HOT pink! I have looking for a pink scarf for a while now, score!

This was Callie's haul, three new gap tops and Ralph Lauren pleated skirt all for $15! You can't beat it!
Get out there and get thrifting! See what treasures you can find!
