Funny stuff

I live with a funny group of individuals. They make me laugh on a daily basis and think the world would be a better place if people laughed more.
This boy was wearing "ear muffs," as he called them. to help Brien mow the back yard. Even though the mowing was over, he decided they were a great accessory for the rest of the day.

Because sometimes you just need to sit in your car and watch Hotel Transylvania. Drive in maybe??

I managed to secretly capture Brien wearing Kellen's puppy mask, he would kill me if he knew I posted this! But Kellen was sure enjoying his puppy daddy!

I walked into my bedroom the other day just in time to get this little gem. What she was doing, the world may never know. I am gonna go with practicing gymnastics...
Sent to me by one of my sweet friends at school. I wrote something accidentally in cursive the other day on the board and there were only 2, that's right 2 that could read it. The world is doomed!
So, that's a glimpse into my funny family. I love it!

Lameness and s'mores bars

I will be the first to admit it. I. Am. So. Lame. There I said it. I have officially taken on too much and I am over it. This week was meetings, science fairs, window estimators, girls scouts and utter exhaustion at school.

My students are done learning and I am done teaching. It's all I can do each day not to just show a movie and say, "Don't kill each other, okay?" than teach.

The other day I came home from school and I realized I had forgotten the stack of essay rubrics that I needed to grade on my desk, ooppss! I had the pretty much the whole evening to do nothing and I didn't even know what to do. I think I forgot how to do life, if I am not doing school work.  Yikes!

But hey, the end is in sight and it will be here in just 19 more days. I got this.

So dessert, now that's fun. Nothing like shoveling sugar in my face and the faces of loved ones to make life better.

Last weekend, Kellen and I made s'mores bars and I have to say I am impressed by my little protege!

You need: 6 cups of Golden Grahams, 5 cups of mini marshmallows (just use the whole bag!) 3/4 stick of butter and 1 cup of chocolate chips

1. Melt the butter in a large sauce pan over medium heat
2. Add in the marshmallows--All the marshmallows! Our batch was a little dry, more marshmallows would have done the trick!
3. Keep stirring until everything is melted together.
4. Measure out the Golden Grahams and then pour the butter/schmallow mixture over it and stir with a spatula to coat the cereal.
5. Mix in the chocolate chips quick, before it starts to harden!
6. Press the cereal mixture into a 9x11 pan and let it cool!

Then cut up and serve, yum yum!
I ate the left overs right outta the pan all week!

Life lately...

My schedule has gotten the best of me the last few weeks! I have been totally whipped with school. I super dislike that this happened, but it seems unavoidable at the end of the school year!
Last week we had testing for my students and my own little 3rd grader. Stressful does not begin to cover it! The first day of testing Callie was SO excited to rock that PARCC test and by the last day she was in tears and not wanting to go to school because she was just done with it!

It's weird to be on this side of the assessment, I have a totally new perspective on standardized testing, as in this teacher's kid may might not be participating next year!

I have been doing interviews for student teachers, potential new teachers for next year and been to more meeting than I can count.

We are also finishing out the school year with Literature circles, reading The Outsiders, and point of view writing. All super fun, engaging activities, but they are so much work to plan and teach, that I am exhausted! I have been coming home from school and planning from 4:45 until like 6:45 with a short break to eat. Thankfully my darling husband is a pretty good cook! Then bath, jammies, and stories until 8.

At night all I wanna do is watch our shows... I think this sums it up perfectly...

I totally have the mom guilt in the worst way. I miss my family and doing fun things. I am over this. Only 30 school days left and I am literally crossing them off the calendar!

Today we are snowed, that's right snowed  in again. In, April. So playing, movies and another round of Harry Potter and butterbeer, it is! And I don't even care about school.

What is up with the weather?!? Yesterday, we actually had flowers. For the first time we our flowers were not bunny food!
and today was all like....

Blecchhh, whatever.
Next week will be better!

Adventures in Asia

We rounded out good old spring break nicely with super fun field trip...No sadly we did not go to real Asia, but we did go to the Asian Market and my kiddos and I had  BLAST!

My wonderful sister in law graciously agreed to be our guide and I learned SO much!

A few months back this Pacific Ocean Market opened a few blocks from my school and some of the teachers I work with go their on their lunch breaks and come back with delicious looking treats. Also in the mornings my students who walk to school stop there to see who can bring the most interesting snack to 6th period.
Naturally I had to see what all the fuss was about!

There was so much to see and do. Who knew grocery shopping could be so fun?! (y'all know how I feel about grocery shopping!)
Some favorite things were the fruits... There are so many cool varieties and things I have never heard of or seen before!
Kellen loved the fresh crabs and craw fish. He got a kick of seeing aunt Phanneth digging the box with the tongs. The crabs would grab and climb on each other. It was quite entertaining for him!

Callie just wanted to buy everything that had sugar in it!

There is just something about being out of your comfort zone and trying new things that I just love. After an amazing tour of the store we had a yummy lunch at the deli in the store. I am so thank that I had my sister in law there to tell me what to get and buy. I would have been so lost and intimidated without her! Now I feel like pro!

We had to take a picture by the "Lions"/dragons!

All of our Pacific Ocean Market treasures!
We ended up with: Fresh mint, snap peas, dragon fruit, lychee, jackfruit, jasmine tea, chopsticks, wanton wrappers, egg noodles, ice cream and a bunch of candy!
This was such a fun day and I can't wait to go back and try it again...

Green Goo in the name of beauty!

My precious daughter had this book about fun things to do with your mom. In this book are some really neat ideas and some crazy ideas as well!

Yesterday she had a crazy idea. She wanted to try facials again by making "a cooling cucumber mask." So we made a special trip to the store to get our supplies!

You need half of a cucumber and 2 Tbsp of plain yogurt.
Chop up the cucumber and blend with the yogurt in a blender.
Next let it thicken up a little in the refrigerator. We let our's thicken up while we burned through an episode of "Fuller House".
Then using a make up brush paint the mask on to your face and let it dry for 10 minutes.
This is what I was picturing...

This was the reality....
Callie kept saying, "Mom it looks like you have broccoli on your face." Newsflash kid, so do you...

After you leave the mask on for 10 minutes wipe off with a warm wash cloth and let your face air dry.

So the verdict...It smells nice, much better than the one we tried last year, see the post here.
It was positively freezing outside, so a "cooling" mask probably was not the way to go on a snowy day. I can see trying this again, after a hot day in the sun. After we were all cleaned of the green goo, my skin felt much softer and looked less puffy. So I guess it worked!
