What's cooking Wednesday: Reese's Dip!

This week has been a fun one! We keep trading kids out for Grandma camp, because 5 kids together is A LOT for one grandma to handle, so now Callie is off livin' it up and my buddy is back home with me!

Last week Callie and I whipped up this delicious treat! We are big fan of dips especially sweet ones! and the more chocolate the better!

You need:
1 stick of butter--softened
1 8 oz package of cream cheese--softened
3/4 cup of peanut butter
1/2 cup of brown sugar (I think we ended up actually using a whole cup, because it was not sweet enough)
1 tsp of vanilla
1/2 cup of Reese's peanut butter cups--chopped (we actually ended up using the whole bag which I am going to say was more than 1/2 a cup!)

This is super healthy right?? There is protein in peanut butter I think!

1. First cream together the butter and cream cheese using a hand beater.

2. Next add in the vanilla and brown sugar and continue to mix well.
3. Then fold in the chopped Reese's using a spatula.

4. Let it set up a little in the fridge, ours was a little warm from the cream cheese and butter sitting out to soften.
5. Last, enjoy with apples, vanilla wafers or my favorite, a spoon!

We definitely will be making this again!

Pineapple whips

After our errands on our last wonderful day of summer vacation, Kellen and I came home and made a new treat! They are so good! I am told that they have these at Disney, but I have never had them so I have no idea if they taste the same...Enter the Pineapple Whip!

You need:
1 bag of Frozen pineapple (I used about half of the bag)
1 tub of cool whip (I used about half the container)
1 bottle of pineapple juice (I didn't really measure it, I just added it in when the blender seemed to get stuck because it was too thick)

Add the pineapple...

Add the cool whip and pineapple juice...

Blend and enjoy! Holy Moly Ravioli was this yummy! Kellen drank most of it, so I had to make another, it was that good...

What we wore and What's cookin' Wednesday

This week we had flops for our cooking day, they were gross! Do not try these recipes...

The first one was for Glitter Grapes. We like grapes and we like jello, how could this go wrong...

Here is the recipe...
Pluck grapes from their stems and rinse in a colander. Pour the gelatin mix onto a plate. Place grapes on the plate one handful at a time and roll around until coated. Transfer to a pretty dish and refrigerate for 1 hour to allow the gelatin to set.

So easy right? Wrong. We used sugar free jello which just makes gross clumps when it gets wet. But Callie found a box of regular Jello in the back of the pantry, so we rinsed the grapes and started over.

The regular jello coated a little better. We stuck them in the fridge to enjoy after we got home from VBS.
They were horrible, sour, hard and crunchy. I will never make this again.

Since we had such a horrible flop I felt bad, so on Thursday we decided to try another recipe off of our list. Callie wanted to make dehydrated strawberries, because on pinterest it said they were like candy... Here is the pin
They did not taste like candy, they tasted like poison! They were gooey and sour, Blech!! It felt like eating raw meat, seriously that was the texture. Yuck! Don't ever make these either.

The moral of the story this week is: Don't mess with fruit!! It's good just the way it is, don't change it or add to it, unless you want something gross, so there.

Now onto the clothes! I have been feeling quite brave this week and wearing more shorts! Callie says they look ok, but she is 7...

Flowered shorts: Thrifted, Target, brand new with tags!

I wore this to time to read Tuesday! It was super comfy!

I wore this to church, great for working in the nursery when you have to be up and down and all around.

Dress:Thirfted

I wore this to the Kellie Pickler Concert (or Kellie Pickles as Callie calls her) It was super fun to get out of the house sans children and have night of dancing and good music!

Dress: Thrifted, Old Navy, new with tags!
Flip flops: Old Navy
I wore this last week with my dad on errands to pick up our new window well, you would never guess how hard those are to get if you are just a regular Joe off the street!

Top: thrifted, Target, new with Tags
Shorts: thrifted
Sandals: Target
These were the short shorts in questions... I wore these to shop for house stuff. I am currently on the look out for new pillows, stuff to make a family calendar/message wall, picture display and frame ideas and stuff to decorate the laundry. No such luck so far!

What's cookin' Wednesday (sorry it's Thursday)

This has been another wild week. We are in the throws of Vacation Bible School and my sweet friend Anna and I are directors. I am shocked at how wonderfully smooth everything is going. We have amazing teachers and teen helpers. A lot of prayers and hard work went into this week and it is so cool to see the kids connecting God to their lives in a fun way! More about that later...

Today is also a super special day because 3 years ago, on this very day, the Wood family closed on our house. This time of year always reminds me of the process that we went through to get this place. It also reminds me of the blood, sweat and literally tears that have gone into making this house our forever home. We have accomplished so much and every year I take pictures so that I can remind myself of all that we have done. More about that later as well!

So what's cookin' Wednesday was kind of interesting last week, and this week for the matter, more about that later too!

Callie decided dunkaroo dip was on the menu. We found the recipe here:  http://leemeandthegirls.blogspot.com/2011/09/embracin-camera-and-it-tastes-like-cake.html

We made the dip using confetti cake mix, vanilla yogurt and and a tub of cool whip. It tasted, not quite like the dunkaroo deliciousness I remember from my childhood, but like cake mix instead. We ate ours with teddy grahams and it made for a pretty good afternoon snack. But, us two girls could not possibly eat an entire box of cake mix, so we covered it in foil and put it in the fridge. The next day, Callie requested the dip for a snack. When we pulled it out of the refrigerator it was like a gooey cakey mess! Gross! We had to throw it away. If you are going to make this treat eat it all at once or don't prepare the entire box!

Now for what we wore...
Maxi Dress: Forever 21
Sandals: Target

I wore this to church on Sunday for Father's day. We had a blast spoiling Brien, Callie picked him out a really cool fire pit and we are waiting to finish up the yard and install it.

We ate lunch at his favorite Mexican restaurant and spent the afternoon on the patio relaxing.

Skirt: Target thrifted
T-shirt: Old Navy
Sandals: Target
I wore this cute skirt running errands last week, probably frantically shopping for supplies for this week!
Remember this dress?? The top was fitting pretty weird  and looked awful, so I cut it off and now its my new cute palm leave skirt!

Top: Very Jane
Tank: Target
Cargo pants: Old Navy
Sandals: Target
I wore this last week on Fabulous Friday. We went to Monkey Business. I thought Kellen would LOVE it, but I think he was overwhelmed with all of the noise and children, so I ended up holding him most of the time we were there!
They had fun getting out of the house!
He played on the floor maybe 20 minutes out of 2 hours, it's a good thing he is free!
Tanks: Kohls
Shorts: Old Navy
Flip flops: Target
I wore this the first night of VBS, comfy and cute!

Gummy bear Popsicles

This recipe was all Callie. On "what's cookin' Wednesday" we needed something to make, it was also Callie's first official day of summer vacation. After a long walk around the neighborhood, planting flowers and doing some Father's day errands we were ready for a cool treat. Enter the gummy bear Popsicle.

You need :
*sprite
*Popsicle molds (ours were from the $ Tree last summer)
*a bag of gummy bears

1. First we dumped in the bears. We could fit about 8 in comfortably.
2. Next top with Sprite. I left just enough for the stick from the holders to have something to freeze to .If I remember anything about freezing pop it's that it expands and or explodes!

3. Then we put them on a plate in the freezer. We put them in our garage freezer just in case they made a mess.

Callie totally forgot about them until the next day. So the finished product...
4. Freeze over night in a super cold freezer. Then run the plastic holder part under warm water.
5. The Popsicles slid right out and then the "stick" that's supposed to hold them on slipped right off.
Yikes!
Thankfully Callie had some craft sticks in her art box so we jammed those into the popsicles.
.Apparently they are deliciouso! Sprite a gummy bears are not really my thing. But they sure are kid
approved!
